1) The objectives of the campaign :
- Target teenagers in the place they spend most of their time, such as schools
- Create a positive image of the non-smoker to whom teenagers can identify themselves.
- Reveal to teenagers the trap of tobacco advertising.
Inform teenagers about the consequences of smoking.
- Create in teenagers mind a “critical thinking” and an “active attitude” against tobacco.
- Guide teenagers towards activities that promote a healthy life (sports, music…)
2) Keys of success:
-
The identification to well-known persons representing a positive image of “non smoker”: A key factor is the animation of the campaign by well-known and beloved people, like sport champions, ex-Miss Lebanon, Star Academy and TV or theater stars, such as Georges Khabbaz, Sabah Khoury, Rania Baroud, Marie-José Hnein, Serge Zarka, Joseph Attieh, Bruno Tabbal, Rony Fahed, Ziad Njeim, Tony Baroud, Jihad el Murr, Walid Doumiati, Rita Khoury, who devoted or still devote their time to discuss the tobacco issue with students.
-
Our interactive and dynamic approach: The teenagers participate actively in debates and workshops expressing their opinion and preoccupations, instead of being passive receivers of information.
- The professionalism in every step of our work: Our presentation is professionally prepared by Dr Béatrice Chami, lung specialist and tobacco cessation specialist, our workshops moderators are trained by professional psychologists …
3) Structure of the half-day session:
A session in three stages:
- Power Point Presentation about:
- Marketing and manipulation
- Tobacco production
- Tobacco bad effects on health
- Dependence due to tobacco
- Debate and testimony: Famous sport players and TV stars conduct a free debate on tobacco smoking in which the teenagers take actively part and can express their point of view and preoccupations.
- Workshops:
-Analysis of tobacco advertising under the theme: “Be critical”, to help teenagers not to fall into the trap of advertising.
-Role Play: “How to say NO to your first cigarette”, this workshop helps teenagers to find their arguments and to help them test their resistance against the influence of their environment.
